Rachel Questions And Answers On Best Online Guitar Instruction

Rachel asks…

What can I get from guitar lessons in person I can’t get from lessons online?

Trying to decide whether to take guitar lessons in class or online and save money.
I’m a beginner and my friend is kinda intermediate… he thinks(LOL).
We want to get the best instruction, quick!
I think it’s the competition among teachers that makes some thumbs-down your answer, Switch.
I gave it thumbs up.

admin answers:

I think that a combination of both would be a very good way to start. You can take one private lesson to learn the correct posture and left hand positions, and then switch to online lessons to save a significant amount of money and time. If you have a bit of self-discipline, you can actually get more from online lessons. You can then go on with online lessons and have some private tuition say once a month or every two months to sharpen the edges and clarify anything you don’t fully understand.

Let’s make a small calculation and try to figure out some points:
Normally, you would take one lesson a week if you want to see any kind of result in say 6-12 months. Let’s assume that one hour of guitar lessons costs $40 (which can actually be higher). So, it would make $160 a month and $960 for six months. This is actually an awful lot of money to spend. Instead of this, you can go on with online resources – and there are some very decent resources that can provide value with a very small investment in terms of money- and have one lesson a month which sums up to only $240 in 6 months. You can find below an article I’ve found that can help you get in the right direction. Hope this helps you a bit.

Helena Questions And Answers On Best Online Guitar Instruction

Helena asks…

Music instruction book / DVD recommendations? (Drums, Bass, Guitar)?

I’m looking for instruction books / CDs / DVDs for my son to learn to play drums. (and my other son to play Bass & Daughter to play guitar) There are many out there, but like anything – some are good & some aren’t efficient at teaching. I also have him set-up to do online drumming instruction, but I figured it would be best if he had something tangible to work with. Thanks

admin answers:

I second the answer above- there’s no substitute for the give-and-take of a live instructor. I took lessons for a year or two when Nixon(?) was president, and lost interest. About five years ago, my neighbor was having a garage sale, and before the vultures swooped down, I scooped up a no-name guitar, took it to the shop, and had new strings and a setup done. I was playing around with some lessons I found online, and my (then) 7-y/o son started asking me to teach him. My wife insisted that we get a real teacher. I heard that the director of my church’s contemporary music group (aka ‘Folk Mass’) taught on the side. I called him up, told him the situation, and mentioned that I was playing again. The next thing out of his mouth was “Would you like to start practicing with us? We could use some fresh blood on Sunday mornings..”Anyway, I’ve been playing most Sundays for almost five years now, my son started after a year of lessons-he’s no prodigy, but certainly talented. The nice thing is that he’s in with some very experienced(his teacher has 35+ years playing and teaching, and the keyboard player teaches in the local school system) musicians, you can’t get a more wholesome environment, and he’s better than I’ll ever be- Good Luck!

Graham Questions And Answers On Best Online Guitar Instruction

Graham asks…

What is the best way to become an expert at guitar?

my parents wont pay for lessons and i dont have the money to pay for online lessons. im really passionate about it though and i want to start my own band. i think i could be good if someone could give me the right instruction

admin answers:

There are some excellent free guitar resources avaliable online – like here: http://www.guitar-instructions.org/ – that will help you to learn guitar. But, for learning quickly and properly, I’d recommend getting some proper lessons. The most cost effective lessons are available online.

Online lessons are not very expensive – the Jamorama Guitar Course – http://www.guitar-instructions.org/guitar-course-reviews/ – basic version starts at just under $40, which is less than the cost of a meal out and is well worth the investment.

The great thing about lessons on your computer is that you can go at your own pace and be led, step-by-step in a logical fashion through a well thought out syllabus. Each stage builds on the previous one so you build up a solid foundation, which is not the case if you try to find your own way through the free resources online, which can be a frustrating and slow experience.

If you’re serious about learning guitar, then $39.95 is a small investment to ensure you get quality instruction right from the beginning and progress at the rate you deserve.

Don Questions And Answers On Best Online Guitar Instruction

Don asks…

Starting to Play Electric Guitar?

My sister is wanting to learn how to play the electric guitar and I`m wanting to support her but have a few questions first:
- Best brand of guitar that will last?
- Other equipment she will need?
- Best beginner`s Instruction book?
- Best to buy a guitar from a nearby store (very limited) or online (one of her friends got hers online and said it was just fine but I am a bit nervous about online purchases since our last two didn`t go so well. Any website suggestions?)
- Any other tips to make this learning experience for her more fun would be sincerely appriciated! icon smile Questions And Answers On Best Online Guitar Instruction

admin answers:

1) Depends what kind of music she wants to play, level of interest, and how much you are willing to spend.
2) She will need the guitar, amplifier, a cord, picks, a guitar strap, and a a spare set of strings.
3) Private lessons is the way to go – and the teacher will recommend a book.
4) Can’t say about on-line. Since you’ve had your difficulties, I suggest buying from a local store – where she can try out the guitar and see if she likes it.
5) tips: have patience, don’t just learn from a teacher, but play with other people – they will show you things. Better to practice 10 minutes every day than to ‘cram’ several hours in one day a week.

You can find a lot about playing on the web but what you should do first is pick up a book from “Hal Leonard” he is the master of introductory guitar books. If you use this and learn some excersizes to strengthen your fingers on the fret board you should be on your way. There is only really one way to be able to play and that’s to sit for 1-2 hours every day or at least 5 days a week and practice.

Free online guitar lessons…Anyone know any good sites?

Learn how to read tabulature. (It’s not music notation, it’s just six lines and numbers on those lines denoting which frets to push)
While it’s been years since I’ve used there online depository of tabs, www.harmonycentral.com had a pretty good database of them.

Otherwise just type the name of your favorite and “tabulature” in any search engine.
Also, when you find the tabs try to play along with the CD. This REALLY helps you develope your ear icon smile Questions And Answers On Free Guitar Lessons Online Free Guitar Lessons Online

Questions And Answers On Must Know Songs Piano

Steve Questions And Answers On Must Know Songs Piano

Steve asks…

Looking for a PIANO JAZZ SONG ! Where online can I listen to the songs of “THE GOOD SHEPHERD” moviesoundtrack?

I’m looking for a ballad piano song, that must have been written probably in the 20′s or 30′s, and that have been used in the movie “The Good Shepherd” ( in 2007, with Matt Damon, Angelina Jolie and Robert de Niro ).
It was played by a jazz-band, and Edward Wilson ( Matt Damon) began to dance with his partner. He danced with Angelina Jolie, and it was the song ” Blue Skies”, but he also danced with another girl ( the brunette who tried to play fake love affair in order to collect intelligence for the KGB), and this song had a beautiful piano intro…This song is still in my head, and I just love it…
That’s obviously a standart of the classical american jazz repertoire, but I can’t find the CD of the soundtrack in France.
If I know the original name of the composition, I would certainly find it, as performed by the main band.
Some people told me it must be “Umbreacable You” by Gershwin, but I couldn’t make them listen to the melody, and I checked this Gershwin song, and it wasn’t.
So, I know it was neither “Blue Skies” nor ” Umbreacable You”…

If you saw the movie, can you please enlighten me, or give me a link or website helping me to check out which song it really is?

Another thing : I may be mistaken, but it looks also like the Irving Berlin style, that is to say very light and sweet melody.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

Of course, the 10 points are for the first who finds this precious diamond…

admin answers:

Hi Fatih,

A very famous version of ‘Blue Skies’ is from Al Jolson. It was performed in the movie ‘The Jazz Singer’ from 1927. This is the first talkie (not the whole movie). Last year, a collector’s DVD set was issued because of the 80th Anniversary of the movie. I have that box and like it very much. However, if you are not used to that type of movies it could be some kind of strange.

The versions of ‘Blue Skies’ that I have are from:

- Al Jolson
- Ella Fitzgerald
- Frank Sinatra

Embraceable you is a song from the musical ‘Girl Crazy’ by Gershwin. There are so many great standards in that musical: ‘I Got Rhythm’ and ‘But Not For me’ are the other two tracks, which became timeless jazz standards.

I have more than 10 versions of ‘Embraceable You’. One of the best known and best vocal versions is the one with Judy Garland.

If you want I can send you the mp3 files of some of them.

Here a movie version of ‘Embraceable You’ by Judy Garland:

(the record version is a bit different)

Songs fo rmy 11 yr old sister to sing at the school X Factor?

She’s a bit of a rock chick and needs 2 songs to sing in her X Factor final.

Her first song must be accompanied by the piano and a ballad type song.

The second one is for a backing track and she would like a rock song.

She needs songs that everyone will know so that she can get more votes!

PLEASE HELP!

admin answers:

For the slow type song, if she’s a Disney Channel fan she could sing:
-The Climb by Miley Cyrus
- This is Me by Demi Lovato
- Don’t Forget by Demi Lovato

If she’s not a Disney fan she could sing [still the slow songs here]:
- Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis
- Halo by Beyonce
- Because of You by Kelly Clarkson
- Love Song by Sara Bareilles

Now for the rock songs, if she’s a Disney fan:
- Get Back by Demi Lovato
- 7 Things by Miley Cyrus
- Potential Breakup Song by Aly & AJ
- See You Again by Miley Cyrus

And if she’s not a Disney fan:
- My Life Would Suck Without You by Kelly Clarkson
- Sober by Pink
- That’s Not My Name by The Ting Tings
- Since You’ve Been Gone by Kelly Clarkson
- Hot n Cold by Katy Perry (instead of saying b*tch she could say witch)

That’s all i can think of right now…
Hope I Helped!
Good Luck =D

Susan Questions And Answers On Must Know Songs Piano

Susan asks…

Easy songs to start learning piano with?

Hi!

I recently decided to finally start playing piano. I’ve always liked classical music, and I’d be interested in playing that kind of songs. However, must of the music sheets I’ve found online have been a bit over my playing range.

Could anyone suggest any semi well known simple classical songs which I could practice on the piano? I would prefer something upbeat and cheerful, but anything that sounds decent.

Thanks! icon smile Questions And Answers On Must Know Songs Piano

admin answers:

You need to get a teacher. The success rate with self taught classical piano students is extremely low. Very little of the music that you are likely to play on the piano are songs. Most classical piano music is instrumental and has no vocal component.
The most commonly taught first real classical works are pieces like those from Bach’s “Anna Magdalena’s Notebook.” These are accessible to beginners. Most teachers will progress from miniatures like these to sonatinas by Clementi and Kuhlau. When you are a beginner you are likely to spend as much of your time working on exercises like those found in the “Dozen a day” books.

Teachers (if they are good) are worth the money.

Helena asks…

I found reviews for Online Guitar Lessons. Is learning at home effective?

The reviews at http://www.reviewsnest.com/GuitarLessons look good, but – anybody have any experience with learning at home?

admin answers:

Any type of music lesson is going to be only as effective as you make it. If you have the discipline to learn at home, it will work fine. If you don’t have the discipline, don’t bother.

The advantage of having a guitar instructor is that you have someone there to show you what you are doing wrong right away and how to correct it, while if you are just going by something inanimate, it can’t give you that immediate feedback. It can also be someone to encourage you when are doing well.

David Questions And Answers On Guitar Lesson Reviews

David asks…

Whats the best way of going about finding a guitar instructor in my area?

I dont necessarily want to just go to Craigslist and go to some guys house who says he’s going to teach me guitar…are there any websites that do reviews on guitar teachers? Im an intermediate player who would like formal lessons..Thanks for all your help!

admin answers:

Go to the music department of a nearby college or university. If they offer a guitar major, you might post an ad on their bulletin board asking for a guitar major to give you lessons. Those students should know their stuff, and they’ll work a little cheaper in most cases. Alternatively, ask the department secretary if any faculty there would refer you to a good teacher.

Second option: go to the big music store in your city–the one that sells a full range of band, orchestra, and rock instruments–they probably offer lessons, and the biggest store is the one where all the best teachers want to work. Will be a little more expensive, though.

Are there any GOOD electric guitar magazines out there?!?!?

I have subscribed to all of the biggies (guitar one, guitar world, guitar player) and i think they all are trash! I love playing the guitar and i like rock (mostly alternative, indie) but when i get a guitar magazine, i dont want to see a bunch of tattooed, bare-chested, earring wearing, and tongue dragging weirdos. I just want a magazine that has reviews, lessons, and articles and focuses on guitars, not really guitar players. I know a bunch of good acoustic guitar magazines, but are there any good electric ones? thanks in advance.

I used to get those magazines as well. They are trash. They give rave reviews to any product the company throws at them. Thier interviews are nothing but generic fluff.

Go to www.ultimate-guitar.com from now on. It’s not really a whole lot better. But at least it’s free and up to date! And they have a monster tab compendium.

well ive recently got into band music and i really want too learn how too play guitar. (if its not suitable please explain why it isnt)

admin answers:

3/4 size guitars are designed for kids, your not a kid at 15.
First decide weather you want a classical accoustic (nylon strings)
or a metal string accoustic, this will give a sharper sound,
Depends what music you intend to play. There are various sizes
of accoustic guitars, and quite honestly you really need to find
a music shop and sit one on your knee,to see which one is for
you.You need to feel happy with the size and the way it feels
to get the best results.6 string is the most popular.Falcon is
a very low cost guitar and I have no experience of them,
it really depends on how much you want to pay.Even
if you cant play you can always strum down the strings
and listen to the sound of various makes.

admin answers:

Questions And Answers On Instrument Building Kits

Bob Questions And Answers On Instrument Building Kits

Bob asks…

Where would i find an acoustic guitar building kit?

or mandolin. any stringed instrument that would be easy to build

admin answers:

Heres one, next time just google what you are looking for first.

Caroline Questions And Answers On Instrument Building Kits

Caroline asks…

Electronics kits?

In the past various companies have manufactured electronics kits with which one could build many different electronic instruments . Are these still being manufactured ? What is the very best one ?

admin answers:

A number of groups are producing some very interesting kits. I find Ramsey’s kits are generally boring for my taste. Groups like the American QRP club, http://www.amqrp.org , are kitting out some truly interesting designs.

Ken Questions And Answers On Instrument Building Kits

Ken asks…

naturAL WEATHER INSTRUMENT?

how could you build an instrument to predic weather patterns with natural stuff, wood, stuff off of a shipwreck (first aid kit, axe, meals ready to eat, etc.)

admin answers:

There is a hygrometer that is made from a human hair. To learn to tell the weather you need to study cloud patterns and what they mean.
You could set up rain gauge with a marked can.
You could set up a weather vane for direction and it could have a part that swings up to tell speed of the wind.

John Questions And Answers On Instrument Building Kits

John asks…

Musical Instrument Project.?

For my science project, we have to build any musical instrument. It has to be made from scratch, NOT A KIT. Use items from your home to make one or build one. I’m planning to make cigar box ukulele.. Buy the nylon strings and all that from Lowe’s or Home Depot.. I don’t want to do buy wood and just make the neck part. I don’t have any ideas right now of what to use. I don’t even have a cigar box. Help?

admin answers:

You will need wood, but maybe use a scrap, found.

To that cigar box. I met an instrument maker, electric guitars, who has done cigar box instruments. He sets a wood block within the box for strength to support the tension created by the strings on the neck. You would want a hollow box, or framing support within because the cigar box is far too weak to support anything larger scale. With less tension, say a shorter neck and rubber bands, you might get away with less structural support.

It is not necessary to “imitate” a four or six-stringed instrument, since this is a fantasy assignment..
Make something up!

Here is a link to images of the Chinese violin, Erhu (ar-hoo). This suggests the cigar box could be positioned differently than one might think for a guitar.

Http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&sugexp=ldymls&xhr=t&q=erhu+image&cp=9&qe=RXJodSBpbWFn&qesig=I0hR7kVsAtwRK1BXcoilrQ&pkc=AFgZ2tmeA0WoP6883oRsuoe5ljzDmezuz0NyP74A5shEbMu85Z1F_CwVuJaOB5r60zVrvCSEzwNQxFwjjf5Dku5LTtsPpqrfQA&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&wrapid=tljp1297817242588016&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=univ&ei=uB5bTZ-HKcbpgAeB9bn2DA&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&sqi=2&ved=0CCcQsAQwAA&biw=1004&bih=468

And to lyres, which suggest a different construction other than a neck and frets. Some of the line-drawing illustrations are the clearest to get the notion.

Good luck with your project: I hope it is also fun.

Best regards.

Jane Questions And Answers On Instrument Building Kits

Jane asks…

What is your opinion on a Saga PB_10 bass guitar kit?

I don’t own one, but I want to know if it’ll be a good instrument. Tell me how it sounds, any troubles you had when building it, how everything came out. Anything you have to offer I’d love to hear

admin answers:

I haven’t ever heard of this brand but I know several people who have owned Carvin basses and used their kits. I know that is a good brand you’d be happy with if you are looking to build your own.

Joseph asks…

Rachel Questions And Answers On Guitar Lesson Reviews

Rachel asks…

Charlie Questions And Answers On Guitar Lesson Reviews

Charlie asks…

Are there any GOOD electric guitar magazines out there?!?!?

I have subscribed to all of the biggies (guitar one, guitar world, guitar player) and i think they all are trash! I love playing the guitar and i like rock (mostly alternative, indie) but when i get a guitar magazine, i dont want to see a bunch of tattooed, bare-chested, earring wearing, and tongue dragging weirdos. I just want a magazine that has reviews, lessons, and articles and focuses on guitars, not really guitar players. I know a bunch of good acoustic guitar magazines, but are there any good electric ones? thanks in advance.

admin answers:

I used to get those magazines as well. They are trash. They give rave reviews to any product the company throws at them. Thier interviews are nothing but generic fluff.

Go to www.ultimate-guitar.com from now on. It’s not really a whole lot better. But at least it’s free and up to date! And they have a monster tab compendium.

Questions And Answers On Why Is Playing The Piano Hard

Richard Questions And Answers On Why Is Playing The Piano Hard

Richard asks…

Why is playing the piano such a hard thing to do for beginners?

I play the piano by ear,and I didn’t have to want to rely on written music, now I want to learn to read music,I don’t understand how a professional pianist can operate the pianos pedals, not look at their hands yet they know exacly where to go, and look at sheet music all at the same time.
I can type really fast without looking at my hands.

admin answers:

Playing a piano is an exercise in multitasking. Reading music is not all that hard but like playing the piano it takes practice. If I understand your question you are asking how you can learn to read music and maybe in there is learn how to operate all the systems in a piano.

Playing by ear is okay but the intricacies of chords and key signatures has to be practiced regularly to be learned properly.

Reading music can be learned by purchasing a basic piano book. Here are some on-line sources, http://musiced.about.com/od/beginnersguide/tp/pbooksadults.htm, http://www.tutorials.com/09/0917/0917.asp, http://www.notationmachine.com/how_to_read_sheetmusic/readingmusic.htm, and http://datadragon.com/education/reading/, Learning to play the piano is easier still, there is one on-line site, http://www.lofthouse.com/music/piano/tips.html, http://www.gopiano.com/, that would give you a good start.

The next thing is to begin to practice and do so regularly. You will learn the right hand first and then the left hand, for bass cleft. Learn your chords and then you will learn your foot pedals. If there is a good music repair center or a piano center near you they will usually offer lessons at a discount. If you do not already own an instrument you may want to purchase one … A lot of times there are a number of lessons that come with the purchase, gratis.

Hope this helps …

Why is [physically] playing the piano so hard for me?

I play the keyboard at home and I’m great at it, but I have weekly piano lessons and almost time I have a sub-par lesson. Alana Questions And Answers On Why Is Playing The Piano Hard

Alana asks…

why is so hard to play the piano?

then…is it harder than playing a guitar? i don’t understand. it’s because you have to know where are the accords..it’s like knowing where the computer’s buttons from the keyboard are.

i’m 16->17 years old. i know how to play the guitar a little.i know the accords so i think i would be easier for me on piano. is it hard or late to start now? i heard i have to take lessons about 8 years

admin answers:

I have been playing for 5 years and i’m doing grade 7. I also play flute- doing grade 6.

Normally i would say..once you know one instrument it is much easier to learn another. But…piano is different.
First of all, you have two hands. Now some people don’t have a prob with that…others do because doing left hand is almost like…thinking backwards. At the same time a thinking forwards. Also…beleive it or not, your 4th and 5th fingers on your left hand are incredibly weak to begin with. It’s a bit rediculas really! So you have to almost…train them up.
As well as that..there’s the reading two sets of music at the same time. The cords are different on piano than guitar…becuase you don’t call them like….a cord etc…. If you read music -not cords- then it’s easier to learn…but piano you have to read two different lines.
Then there’s dynamic…if you have to do one hard forte and the other piano then its hard! I’m only just getting the hang of it.
Then there’s pedal. That’s hard. Because you have to think…which one? And then, for how long? While thinking about the music.

Piano is easier if you know a bit. But just knowing accords wont help much. So I doubt it will be that much easier. It will be easier because you’re older, so no…it is definately not too late!
8 years…wont take you that long. If you practice you could probably get to grade 8 in 5. (I didn’t practice!!!) But even if you hit that you still would take lessons. Even the pros have lessons to get other people’s opinion. There’s always something to learn.

Go for it! Piano is great…and yes it’s harder than most instruments…other than poss. Violin…apparently. But it’s very rewarding too!

Cindy Questions And Answers On Why Is Playing The Piano Hard

Cindy asks…

Why do people say playing piano is so easy?

I am 15yrs old and I have been playing piano for a year now i’m early advanced and I have currently started learning to play violin.
Piano isn’t hard to play during the beginning (by beginning I mean from beginner to late intermediate).
So why do some people say that playing piano isn’t hard at all? Is it because they haven’t quite reached the level of playing where finger patterns become weird, tempo changes though out the song, you begin to read treble clef as bass clef or bass clef as treble clef, and dynamics require more emphasis? Or is it just because they want people to think they are extremely talented?
I have come far playing piano because I practice my butt off basically all day when i’m not in school.

admin answers:

It’s just a POV. I don’t think the piano is THAT hard. It isn’t like only one 1 in 20 people can play it proficiently.
I think for some people who say it is SUPER EASY, not me, are those who only play current pop songs and such. Those are easy to play accompanying wise and not characteristic of classical music.

I dont get how these books can get someone off the ground icon sad Questions And Answers On Why Is Playing The Piano Hard Im so fed up.

Thanks,

admin answers:

Hello Adam,

I’m sorry that playing the piano is a frustrating experience for you. There are several possible reasons why reading music is hard for you now. It would be helpful to find a good teacher to evaluate what your strengths and weaknesses are, and to point you in the right direction.

In the meantime, consider the following thoughts. You hit the nail on the head when you pointed out that there are so many things to think about. The durations, pitches, finger motion, and tempo are all very important and there are other aspects of music to consider, too. Making music is the ultimate multitasking activity. To become successful you must practice well. I think it is most effective to break down the elements of music and focus on one task at a time.

It is very helpful to clap and count the rhythms of the pieces you are playing. Repeat it many times until you get to the point that you don’t have to think about the rhythms.

Also, practice your music at slow tempos and gradually work your way up to faster tempos. If you continually have problems learning a piece of music, there are two main factors to consider — the piece is too hard, or you are not practicing as well as you should. One of the biggest problems I encounter with students is that they try to play their pieces too fast, too soon. Take your time and enjoy the piece and enjoy the process of learning new music. Everyone who plays music has to put in a lot of time and effort. It may sound corny, but be patient and practice well and you will be rewarded. To get on the right track, try playing the easiest pieces that you can find. Have fun with them.

This site has links to guidelines on learning new music and to how to practice better. It is geared towards wind and brass players, but it applies to the piano, too.

Good luck.

Richard Questions And Answers On Free Guitar Lessons For Intermediates

Richard asks…

Im feeling really stressed and like im being pulled in so many directions.?

Ive just gone up to my last year in high school and everything immature before seemed to have banished. The fun..the laughs..the friends. Im not an IQ gifted person, id say im a more creative person than a smart one. Despite this, i took all the science streamed subjects like chem, bio, add math, physics, etc. and im having a REALLY hard time coping. I did all of this bcos of parents..to please them and stuff. Also, i have moved into a higher grade in ballet and am taking 2 ballet exaams next year [intermediate istd and Advanced foundation]..if you knew the dance syllabus, you would know that its reallly stressful. It also has ruined my schedule bcos thers 4 classes each week [1 on friday, 2 on sat. and 1 on sunday]. With this i never have time for friends and free time. Including guitar classes, sunday school it books my whole schedule for the weekends, i have to go study after all these extra act. just to really understand my lessons. Im only 15 and i feel like im growing white hair from pressure.
sry, i mean im in 3rd year high school..!

admin answers:

You are feeling stressed and pulled in all these directions– because you are! If you don’t really like science maybe next year (or semester if you can change mid semesters) take classes you would like to know more about. If you don’t really like science and it isn’t your thing don’t make it your focus. Just take the required classes you have to have, and take stuff you want to know more about. And how in the world did they let you take biology, chemistry and physics all in the same year?? They usually break it down by grade level in high school.

Also ballet– if you love it keep doing it otherwise you may want to consider if you are doing it for you or because people want you to do it. It is good to want to do well in life but you shouldn’t live your life pleasing people the entire time. You are only 15– yeah, you need to prepare for college but you also gotta be a kid! Trust me, otherwise college is going to be the same way for.. Work will be the same way.. And when will you ever get a break for yourself and live the life you want? Got to take a stand now!

Davina asks…

Is it possible to learn the guitar online for free?

I’m 12 years old and I want to learn the guitar but I can’t take lessons so can I learn online free?

Thx (:

admin answers:

I won’t say that it’s impossible, but it’s not the best way. There are a couple of serious problems with learning online.

Most importantly, there is no real-time feedback. If you have a question, or are doing something wrong, there’s nobody to point this out. An instructor…or even just a guitar playing friend….can look at what you’re doing and show you small corrections that will make a big difference.

The internet is filled with wonderful tutorials and videos. It’s a great aid to learning, but you’ll need a master plan. Learning is a logical progression where you learn one skill then build on that to learn new skills. It *is* possible to find all the information you need to learn guitar on the web. It’s much more constructive if you have a tutor who can direct your studies.

If you can’t afford lessons, perhaps the music department in your school can give you some guidance. If they could connect you with another person who plays guitar, you could have a sort of mentor. Not a true teacher, just somebody to give you tips and point you in the right direction. Most guitar players would be glad to help a beginner in this way.

Lynn Questions And Answers On Learn To Play Guitar Online Free Lessons

is it hard to learn/play guitar?

I have really long fingers, so, everyone said I should play piano. I don’t take lessons I learn online from webpianoteacher.com (go Shawn!!!) my dad told me I have good guitar fingers, so, I’m considering it. My grandpa and uncle both play, so I can get free lessons. I just want to know if it’s hard (harder than piano?)

thanks icon smile Questions And Answers On Learn To Play Guitar Online Free Lessons
I also rock at guitar hero icon smile Questions And Answers On Learn To Play Guitar Online Free Lessons lol

admin answers:

In my opinion, the piano is harder. I’ve been playing guitar for two years and though I’m not amazing, it does impress people. Your long fingers will help with chords and solos (when you get there). I wanted to give up when I couldn’t change chords fast enough but after I conquered that I was golden.

I think piano is harder in the sense that you focus on both your hands. I’ve been trying to learn piano and it seems way more difficult then when I started guitar. In guitar you focus on one hand while your other strums/picks.

I believe your Guitar Hero pwnage will give you an advantage because your fingers won’t be as stiff.

Joseph Questions And Answers On Learn To Play Guitar Online Free Lessons

Joseph asks…

I’m having a hard time learning to play the guitar. Any free way to learn?

I’ve been trying to teach myself online. I’ve been to websites where they say that in 90 days you will learn to play. The thing is I can’t pay to take lessons. I either need to find a free way to do it online or from a family member. Does anyone know of any free way online that’s really good that easily teaches you to play?
I’m learning to play an acoustic. And I really want to start a band.

admin answers:

I taught myself how to play as well. The main site i went to is wholenote.com. And its completely free.

That site is so helpful. I still use it even though i’m not a beginner anymore. It has lessons from beginner to extreme advanced skill levels and is easy to navitage through. It also alows you to pick between different styles of guitar you want to learn. Its amazing.

My suggestion would be to click on BASICS at the top and click on all of those lessons there and learn them. Those are the basics. Then go to LESSONS at the top and click on Acoustic/Folk, since you want to learn acoustic. You can select beginner skill lessons and work from there. Just roam around that site and it will be amazingly helpful for you.

First things I learned while teaching myself:

parts of the guitar
tuning
learn how to read tabs (i dont know how to read real music, yet)
major chords
minor chords
strumming
knowing the fretboard (know all the notes on the 6th string from the first fret to the 12th fret. It starts over at the 13th. The 6th string is the thickest string.)

get all of that down and then put together like 4 chords and make a song. Just play them over and over again.

Transitioning to chords will be tough and your hands will hurt for a month but if you stick with it you will see an improvement. Dont give up! Good easy transitions are form G to D, G to Dm, D to G, Dm to G, Am to C, C to Am, E to Am, Am to E, and anything to Em is usually pretty easy. Some good chords to play in a pattern to practice are…..

Am to C to G to Em
or
G to D to C to Am

those are pretty easy.

Try to learn all of that and you’ll be playin in no time. Is really quite simple and easy once you get the hang of it. Stick with it and practice for like 1 hour everyday and you’ll get all this down fairly well in a month or two. Stick with it. Dont give up. And remember, guitar playing is not a chore. It is for fun! Think of it that way. It shouldn’t be like homework.

So ya, hope this was helpful.

Can i learn to play the electric guitar from the internet alone? Jackson guitar owners see this.?

I don’t have any clue about guitars and i am buying a Jackson JS20 dinky. Can i be good at it just by getting free online lessons? How is the guitar as a beginners guitar?

admin answers:

Can you learn how to play guitar on your own, just from the internet?

Yes. Doesn’t mean you’ll do it right, though. As the other answer suggested, learning on your own means you *will* have bad habits and incorrect technique. I know, because that’s how it happened with me…. I never had enough money to afford a teacher, so I just taught myself. Worked out pretty well, for the most part, but it wasn’t until years had passed that I began to realize that there were problems with my technique, problems that if I would’ve had a teacher that would have never shown up.

As a result, I did have to “unlearn” how to play and figure out how to do it correctly. My speed, coordination, and enjoyment did increase once I began ironing out my issues, but if I would’ve had good instruction from the start I would be a lot better by now.

My suggestion is to either get a teacher to learn the basics (how to hold your hand, how to fret a note, how to play a chord cleanly, how to run scales) at the very least, or if you are in the same place that I was when I started out, at least find the best guitar player you can jam with and study them like a hawk, ask them questions, etc.

You should have no issues with that guitar, its perfectly fine for a beginner. I *strongly* urge you to get it properly setup and intonated, though! This is something I never really understood for years, but a proper setup and intonation means that your guitar will play better, will stay in tune better, and will sound in tune with itself when you play higher up the fretboard.

Research your butt off – no teacher means you need to absorb a lot of information to make up for it! Youtube is an excellent resource that I didn’t have when I was starting out – so spend hours studying how they do it, it should help you out greatly!

Where can I get good guitar lessons?

I want to learn how to play guitar but lessons are too much money for me. I was thinking of learning from free online lesssons but I can’t find any. Also, I was thinking about buying a self teaching CD. Any suggestions about online websites or CDs?

admin answers:

Free Guitar Videos is a good place to go. YouTube also. And you can check ebay for any guitar lesson CDs. Although the website might help, I strongly recommend getting a teacher. It’s different when you have someone to teach you in the flesh. It would take you less time to master a certain aspect than if you tried to get in on all the stunts by yourself. Not all guitar teachers are expensive, by the way. You can try looking into your community. There may even be free lessons. Or, if you really dislike the idea of splurging, you can ask a friend to teach you.
