Jane Questions And Answers On How To Play Guitar Without Tabs

Jane asks…

Is there a website that helps you to play songs on an electric guitar without tabs?

My friend was telling me about her friend going to this one website that showed her how to play songs without using the tabs with the like numbers and stuff but she doesn’t remember what it was called.
Anyways, is there a website that will show you how to play the song in the simplest way possible from artists like Flyleaf, Alesana and a lot of others like them without using tabs?

Joseph Questions And Answers On How To Play Guitar Without Tabs

Joseph asks…

How can I play guitar without notes or tabs? Please read!?

So I have been struggling FOREVER, and no matter what I do, I can not for the LIFE of me understand tabs or notes. My dream, however, is to become a famous musician. I can sing and write lyrics, but I want to bring my songs to life with my guitar, but my inability to read sheet music makes me feel like I should stop pursuing this dream. Is there a way I can play guitar without sheet music, and if so, how? Please help me! Thank you, & much love.

admin answers:

You could play by ear, but that’ll be quite problematic if you ever want to join a band or have your music professionally recorded. How is anyone going to be able to accompany you if they don’t have a structured idea of how you want your songs to sound?

You should invest in finding a seasoned teacher. Sheet music is way confusing if you try to jump in by yourself, but a pro guitarist will know how to get your feet wet before throwing you in the pool.

Yes, and it’s called using your ear to figure out the notes. It’s a bit difficult at first, but it becomes easier with practice.

Don’t think you can go wrong with just about any low-level Ibanez, and prices should be good.

If this is really a first guitar for a beginner, get one WITHOUT a tremelo. They’re less frustrating to restring, and tremelo techniques are best left to explore AFTER getting some time down with more important aspects of playing. Websites And Tips For Electric Guitar Beginners?

I just bought an electric guitar today. Ive tried looking for lessons and i cant find any anywhere, so i plan on teaching myself. Can you give me some websites for beginners? If you have any advice or tips for me, feel free to throw that in there x]

admin answers:

Chordbook.com. It has an adjustable tuner, gives you all chords, helps you find chords, gives you scales, and how to videos.

Though teaching yourself, I’d HIGHLY advise a tutor. You’re not as good as you think.

I started out on guitar teaching myself. 2 years, I learned a lot. I knew a lot of songs, and thought I was pretty dang good. But, then I decided to take up lessons. I learned more in that one week than I ever did in 2 years. The guitar teacher put me to shame.

If you EVER wanna get anywhere with guitar, get a teacher.

I need advice on an electric guitar for beginners. Recommendations?

I am going to start guitar lessons. I need advice on electric guitars that are good value for money and pretty cheap because i’m a total beginner. Thanks ^^

admin answers:

I have seen electric guitars made from cigar boxes that sounded amazing. I built one last year, total cost was 20 bucks, and i like it better than many Gibsons i’ve heard. I know you may not like the idea of a DYI guitar, but they are amazing. Here’s is a ink for a DYI amp, battery powered, cost me 9 dollars to make. Other than that, epiphodes are cheap and great.. Go with the “Dot” model.

Nancy Questions And Answers On Electric Guitar Lessons For Beginners

Nancy asks…

Where can i find guitar lessons around?….?

i live around pearland tx, and i want to know where i can find electric guitar lessons for beginners around 10 – 15 age?

admin answers:

I wouldn’t mind teaching but I’m in New York, remember? Hahaha well maybe a local shop or a friend. You can always teach yourself! Check out some simple tabs to songs like House of the Rising Sun. Not a hard song to play the 1st guitar to and sounds pretty neat. I hate to break it to you, but if you don’t have the determination to learn by yourself, you probably aren’t going to spend $40 an hour for lessons. Good luck! If you learn a little or want some tips, email me.

Alana Questions And Answers On Electric Guitar Lessons For Beginners

Alana asks…

What kind of electric Guitar is good for me?

Im wanting to take Guitar Lessons But i dont know which Electric Guitar would be good for learning how to play guitar and it need to be an excellent beginner electric guitar so then after i learn how to play the Electric Guitar then i can buy a Fender Stratocaster Guitar

admin answers:

Well that depends on your budget. If you go too cheap you may have issues with playability and keeping it in tune. I bought a used Mexican Fender Tele as my first guitar for $400. You can get a Squire Standard Strat for $229 new and it is a great beginners guitar. There are also some Dean’s and ESP’s in that price range that are good guitars. If you are really fond of the Strat just go ahead and get the Squire Standard (not Bullet or Affinity) or if you can afford it right now a Mexican Strat. You can buy an American later if you want but the Mexican Fenders are very good guitars and you really wouldn’t have a need to upgrade later.

Questions And Answers On Electric Guitar Lessons

Graham Questions And Answers On Electric Guitar Lessons

Graham asks…

Someone please recommend some electric guitar lessons online?

Can anyone recommend a website that offers free electric guitar lessons online? I have been trying to learn to play.. I dont want to get a teacher/mentor and I really want to learn guitar but I think I need electric guitar lessons online…

Thanks!

admin answers:

Once upon a time, learning to play the guitar meant taking forever to find a suitable, quality teacher, sometimes paying over the odds for lessons and having to make your way to these lessons with your guitar in tow. However, with electric guitar lessons online at your disposal, you can say goodbye to wasting precious time and money and learn from the comfort of your own home at your own pace.

So why should I choose online guitar lessons as opposed to one to one teacher / student lessons?

Okay, for starters, any online guitar lessons worth their salt are going to leave no stone unturned with regards to beginners and include all the necessary information and advice required. There are many such programs available with lessons tailored to your particular skill level. They will include a step by step process allowing you to improve bit by bit with an in-depth break-down of the techniques involved.

Only accomplished guitar teachers who have wide experience in training students will have the ability to understand the guidance and education required to catapult a complete beginner into a novice then expert.

Many electric guitar lessons online provide just that, but it can be difficult weeding out the wheat from the chaff. If you really want to learn the guitar and be able to progress at a steady pace but at a comfortable level.

The price of these lessons should directly reflect the length and breadth of the package and the results that will be obtained if followed correctly. Look out for a money back guarantee, if a guitar training package includes a guarantee, then it is likely that it is a worthwhile product and the creator is under no illusion as to its value. That is not to say lessons with no guarantee are no good, but you will want to have the choice should you change your mind..

Now if you are looking for a FREE website that offers electric guitar lessons online then head on over to http://Guitar-insight.blogspot.com I highly recommend taking a look at that site. If you want to pay check out Jamorama or something… But to be honest even jamorama isnt that great…

Rachel Questions And Answers On Electric Guitar Lessons

Rachel asks…

Are electric guitar lessons the same as acoustic guitar lessons?

Ok so i wanna take lead electric guitar lessons… my dad told me that electric and acoustic guitar are the same when it comes to taking lessons. Is That true?

admin answers:

Jason,

Most people play electric and acoustic pretty differently (generally lots of strumming on acoustic, more chunking and playing single notes on electric).

If you really want to play lead guitar, then do NOT take acoustic guitar lessons. The guys teaching acoustic will show you some awesome stuff and a good teacher will teach you well, but you will NOT learn lead like you want to.

Good luck finding the right lessons to teach you lead.

Caroline Questions And Answers On Electric Guitar Lessons

Caroline asks…

I want to start electric guitar lessons! Can anyone help?

I have absolutelly no idea of what kind of guitar I should start with or what kind of teacher should I hire… All in all I know absolutelly nothing about the matter! Please help!

admin answers:

Start with a cheapie like a Yamaha, Hondo, Charvette, Eclipse, Ibanez RG series maybe?, just make sure the neck is straight the strings are not buzzing on the frets and also that theyre not too high off the fretboard. Also try out every one in the shop to see which one has ‘the right feel” when its in your hands, also make sure the tuning keys are good quality and dont slip backwards once theyre tightened, this will cause tuning problems……as a beginner you dont need a $1200 pro machine, or whatever? So stick with the best cheapie model until youre ready to move up. Youll only need a small amp maybe 35 – 50 watts , combo or cab and head is up to you, you can find great bargains on bay all the time, but if you can get two small amps you can plug em together to get a great stereo sound!!. Reverb is great if you can find a small amp that has it, it really gives you a good sound. Having a good practice sound will encourage you to make better music, if your rig sounds skinny or crap, youll be dissappionted and probably give up or sell the gear?……. Check out all the instructional videos on Youtube also, there are squillions of cool guitarists there wanting to show you how to play stuff, some are easy to follow, some are just there to show off and blow you away. You can also download free TAB’s on P2P sites like Ares, Limewire, or Frostwire etc.
Also dont give up when the going gets difficult, the whole point is to stay with it until youve got it sussed……they say it takes a minimum of 5000 hours to get the guitar sorted, from there you just develop more and more (hopefully) Go hard……… Or give up and feel like a loser for the rest of your life, the choice is yours.

What can i type in to find good electric guitar lessons on youtube?

i want to learn how to play my guitar better. i can tremolo, and do basic harmonics and tapping.

also where can i find a list of chords put into tablature form?

Thank You. Much Appreciated.

admin answers:

It seems every aspiring musician with a new guitar posts lessons on Youtube. Too many different opinions for me, I don’t use Youtube for lessons.

You say you can tremolo and tap, but how’s your finger strength? Guitar Scales will help develop individual finger strength and train your ears to recognize patterns for soloing.

This site has some free lessons on the basic scales.

The second link is a tab with all the chords, its huge though…

Mark Questions And Answers On Electric Guitar Lessons

Mark asks…

what is everthing you need to know on lessons for electric guitar?

i just got a guitar and i wanted to know whats is everything you need to know about a guitarlessons and all

admin answers:

First of all, yo need a guitar pick id youplan to play the steel-string or electric guitar. Or, you just use your fingers for nylon-string classical guitar.
You need the insttument and that is a personal choice to you. You don;t need the top of the line either. Its how you play it that counts and how you make it sound. To really learn the guitar well, you have to love the instrument and it will become part of you.

Now for lessons, you need good posture and good left hand position with the palm always in parallel to the fingerboard. The right hand has to be able to alternate pick from the start which means that you need good co-ordination between both hands.
If you start off with a wrong technique, it will be very hard to break in the long run. The first lessons usually involve “Tuning the guitar” which is essential. The teacher has to teach you that because he or she won’t always be around if the guitar sounds out-of-tune and it needs tuning.

Here is a good site for any other questions.

Susan Questions And Answers On Electric Guitar Lessons Online For Free

Susan asks…

Where can I find good heavy metal guitar lessons or tutorials for free or very cheap?

I’ve had an electric guitar and amp laying around for quite some time that I mess around with now and then, but I’m not really that good. To be honest, its not really a hobby I plan on investing alot of time into, but I really would like to learn to rock harder, and really get the guitar to scream. Any good sources of free online tutorials, or perhaps a good cheap book?

I see alot of guitar lessons, but they are all pretty much stuff like all the basic chords, reading music, etc. I’m not concerned about that, I just want to be able to rock hard, and hit all those high pitch notes way back close on the frets. I’ve never been able to make anything sound good way in close there, nor have I found any good chords that play back there.

Thanks.

There are SO many tutorials on here, tailoring to all levels and requirements. Type in anything you could want to learn, I dare you! ‘D Chord on Guitar’ for example….I bet you will get loads of videos that will teach you it.

Beyond video tutorials which are I suppose more like real lessons, you can’t go wrong with websites like Ultimate Guitar and Chordie. I’m sure they have all sorts of video and readable lessons you could look at. If I’m honest, I’ve played Guitar for six months and I’m by no means amazing, but I do well by simply watching videos of how to play songs, or just looking up how to play chords and experimenting. Beginner With Guitar – Help Needed!?

I got an electric guitar for Christmas, because I really want to learn to play guitar, and my dad said he would teach me.

However, time keeps going on and I still haven’t started learning, because my dad is really busy at the moment, and I want to know if anyone knows where I can get comprehensible, and most of all FREE guitar lessons ONLINE.

I really need a helping hand to get me going, and I have everything I need to start learning, except something to learn from.

Any sensible suggestions welcome =D

Please Note – I am an ABSOLUTE BEGINNER and have hardly any knowledge of how to play guitar, so anything too advanced is a waste of time. =D

admin answers:

The easiest thing for a beging to do is to learn how to play other people’s songs. Www.ultimate-guitar.com is a great site for tabs (tabs are songs transcribed to numbers that correspond to the frets on the strings of your guitar). After you are comfortable learning others songs and you have got your “groove” right, go on over to YouTube and just search guitar lessons. They are excellent for learning.

Alana Questions And Answers On Electric Guitar Lessons

Alana asks…

Jane Questions And Answers On Electric Guitar Lessons

Jane asks…

Helena Questions And Answers On Electric Guitar Lessons

Helena asks…

Caroline Questions And Answers On Electric Guitar Lessons

Caroline asks…

what is everthing you need to know on lessons for electric guitar?

i just got a guitar and i wanted to know whats is everything you need to know about a guitarlessons and all

admin answers:

Can anyone reccomend an electric guitar for me?

Okay, this is really 2 questions in 1:
1: I want a cheap but versatile electric guitar, as I want to be able to play bits of music from Frank Zappa to Guns N’ Roses.
2: Can you reccomend a website for me that has good, free guitar lessons.

If you know the answer to one or both of these questions, please reply.

admin answers:

These days there are many good, cheap guitars to choose from. Only you can decide which body style/electronic setup works best for what you want to do. Sometimes, one doesn’t cut it;I have 10 and counting. Dean guitars tend to be pretty terrific for the money. Really though, it depends on the set up of the individual axe. Some come from the factory perfect, most don’t. It’s generally worth the extra $100.00 to have it set up by a professional. And by all that is holy, get rid of those strings that come with it, first thing.

As for online lessons, pretty much the same deal: only you can figure what works best for your musical desires and learning style, and one generally won’t do it all. Good luck!

How hard is it to teach myself to play electric guitar?

I want to be self taught. i don’t want to go through long lessons everyday that may not be useful at all. I will probably look for free guitar lessons on the internet.

I suggest starting of with a acoustic guitar and not steal string because iv seen a lot of people give up because of there fingers not building up enough strength for it.

And if you’ve never played before
here’s a link to all the chords you should learn to start:

and here’s a link on how to read tab:

http://www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/tab-notation.txt

if you want to start teaching your self i suggest using a program like tabit, power tab or guitar pro.
Iv been playing for only 14 years and since i found out about guitar pro its never been essayer or quicker to learn a song.

Good luck with it

Is personal guitar lessons as good as a guitar club?

So for as a graduation present(almost free from elementary…failed 6th grade last year)my parents are getting me a electric guitar( icon biggrin Questions And Answers On Electric Guitar Lessons For Free ) and in middle school they have this guitar club that you get free lessons….but its in a group.Or my parents already said that I could have personal lessons(they say I HAVE to take lessons…YAY!).So which is better? The free guitar club that’s I think once a week for 45 min but I won’t get that personal attention OR the private lessons that I will learn more(once a week for an hour or twice a week for half an hour ,every week(including summer).Which should I go with? And FYI Im serious about learning so don’t say “just go with the guitar club you may not even like the guitar!”.And also please give the pros and cons of each. Thanks in advance!!!XOXOXOXOXO!

admin answers:

There are so many advantages to both. If you know that the private teacher is excellent and you have to choose, Choose lessons.
Classes gives you the opportunity to see what others are accomplishing and gives you an idea of how you compare.
I have done both and both at the same time. I had excellent teachers and great class mates.

admin answers:

Don’t think you can go wrong with just about any low-level Ibanez, and prices should be good.

If this is really a first guitar for a beginner, get one WITHOUT a tremelo. They’re less frustrating to restring, and tremelo techniques are best left to explore AFTER getting some time down with more important aspects of playing. (IMHO) Not to mention there are tons of talented guitarists that don’t even use ‘em.

Here is a very good link to learn , chords, scales, tuning, and with accompanying video so you get the correct posture to hold, play and hold the pick correctly.

One rule of thumb I suggest is to always keep the palm of your playing hand, parallel to the fingerboard. This will facilitate finger-stretching when you solo.

Questions And Answers On Electric Guitar Lessons Online For Free

Davina Questions And Answers On Electric Guitar Lessons Online For Free

Davina asks…

Thanks.

Youtube!

It’s as simple as that icon smile Questions And Answers On Electric Guitar Lessons Online For Free ! You’ll soon start picking it up. But remember…practice what you learn!

Hope this helps,

Questions And Answers On Electric Guitar Lessons Youtube

Rachel Questions And Answers On Electric Guitar Lessons Youtube

Rachel asks…

What are the best Electric Guitar tutorials on YouTube?

I’ve been playing the acoustic guitar for about 3 years now and I’m finally moving onto electric. The problem is, I don’t take guitar lessons and have resorted to learning by watching videos on youtube. However, there are so many, I can’t tell which ones are bad or good!

admin answers:

(Wasn’t going to answer, but will because “butters” beyond idiotic answer – “idk, durrr… I just HAD to let the world know that…”)

*** Digging through the info now… ***

Now these will be based on the people (who have varied vids), not necessarily the lessons themselves since I have no idea what you dig or want for yourself:

Here’s the Em Scale for that: (Great Site anyways…) http://www.all-guitar-chords.com/guitar_scales.php?qqq=FULL&scch=E&scchnam=Pentatonic+Minor&get2=Get&t=0&choice=1

Those two have several and should be good to get you started. That guitar chords/scales site should be useful also.

Mixed with that tabs, or course, are great:

And if you’re using Windows you can use “Power Tab” (Free) on some tabs:

Elizabeth Questions And Answers On Learn To Play Guitar Software

Elizabeth asks…

Learn to play the Guitar with software (MIDI’s)?

Does anyone know of any software that I can get for my children to learn to play the guitar. Something like Guitar Hero, but for a real guitar (or the Yamaha EZ-AG) that can link to a PC through a MIDI / USB connector. Please post a list of software and any useful websites.

admin answers:

MIDI… Doesn’t help very much for guitar. Midi controller guitars tend to be:
1) expensive..
2) have your kids learning how to play a MIDI CONTROLLER rather then learning guitar.

I don’t think you really understand MIDI.

What midi is – is a set of instructions – sorta like POSTSCRIPT is for printing.

A Midi EVENT is a specific thing… Like NOTE ON or NOTE OFF or Play an Eb note, or vibrato, or VOLUME… Or which “patch” or instrument should play it…

In the recording studio I almost NEVER record AUDIO (when laying down a keyboard part)… I always record the MIDI INFORMATION, so I can change my mind on KEY or TIMING or Instrument Choice later.

No… If you want your kids to learn GUITAR… Keep them away from the gadgets. Keep them away from electric guitars with effect pedals… Or a guitar with a WHAMMY BAR.

Get them a nice sounding ACOUSTIC GUITAR with good action.

(“Action” is how close the strings are from the fret-board, without buzzing)

I would introduce them to a LIVE INSTRUCTOR for a little while… Have them visit sites like THEGUITAR.NET

Learn how to read Chord symbols and tabs… And MUSIC THEORY is boring but can make all the difference in the world.

Guitar comes easily to most children. If you get them into lessons, with a private instructor that will give them the fundamentals… They will have the tools to set off on their own.

Also if you play… Teach them what you know.

Paul Questions And Answers On Learn To Play Guitar Software

Paul asks…

What’s the best computer software to learn to play guitar?

Alright I’m interested in learning to play the guitar. I have never before picked up an electric guitar and played it. and I have no idea about all the guitar terminology-except chords.
What would be the best computer software to learn how to play? I would prefer if your recomendations were from your personal experiences icon smile Questions And Answers On Learn To Play Guitar Software
Any other ways I can learn to play besides lessons?
Thanx
by the way, this is the guitar:

Dean Vendetta XM
it is electric but it resonates loud enough to be played without an amp. 24-fret

admin answers:

My past experiences have proved that learning for someone rather than a computer is a lot more helpful and beneficial. A computer can tell you what to do, but can’t critique you in what you are doing wrong. The computer can’t understand you as well as a real human, someone who has learned to play the guitar and knows what you are going through and how to help.
