If you want to learn piano online without lessons, can this actually be done without a teacher sitting beside you showing you where your hands should be, and so on.? Is it possible to learn how to play the piano by some less formal method than this?
The answers are yes to both questions. There are people who can play the piano and are therefore self taught piano players. It is not that such people are naturally gifted pianists, just that they have learned the notes and scales either from books or videos.
Some would argue that you can only learn piano technique from a teacher, and this might well be true. It is difficult to learn fingering techniques from books, for example. A teacher sitting beside you can show you these techniques.
A lot of the piano learning curve rests on the ability of the person learning to play, and we are all different in this respect. You never know until you try playing the piano whether you have the natural ability to be successful or not. This applies whether you have someone teach you piano or whether you learn piano online.
Other ways of learning piano without lessons are by looking at step by step books. You just follow along with what you are shown. You can learn all about piano theory from books on the subject as well. Once you have taught yourself some basic note reading, you can concentrate on technique. Piano notes can be studied on the internet. Just Google it.
You can also learn piano scales from looking at the internet. When you have a decent grounding in these two elements you are all set to play some music. Piano playing can be fun and rewarding.

For example, I have a guidebook by the name of “>How To Play The Piano By Ear In All 12 Keys Without Knowing how To Read A Note Of Music that has become quite popular. It covers some very elementary basics and some people will interpret that manual as being “below their level.” However, when I ask these same individuals if they have actually taken the steps subscribed in that guidebook to reap the rewards that await for doing so, the response that I get is a no. You see, it’s your initiative that makes it happen.
So, I would like to suggest, as you pursue your piano learning adventure (whether you are doing this on your own or making efforts to learn piano online via tools that are available for your use), that you evaluate your own interaction with the material that you have before you:
Are you making the most of that material by extracting the value that it contains as it relates to your goals?
Are you interpreting it at face value while expecting it to “magically” lead you to results?
Are you being receptive to other lessons contained within the main lesson?
In short, are you approaching the lesson at hand with a truly open mind?

This program was created in this manner for a reason – so that the individual would make the most of each lesson. You see, I know that the average person who puts himself or herself in touch with a new lesson is likely to miss the point, which is to use the information – overuse it to the point where you know it like the back of your hand. I do want you to understand that I understand this sense of “I want to see what comes next” and it’s natural. Once you realize “what comes next” is supposed to be “what you do with what you have,” then things fall in place for you. This is what I want for you.
